This is hell the history of sugar in the United States is an ugly, brutal, cruel, deadly and exploitative

history, but far more than you may realize.

Of course, sugar like cotton played a role in slavery but not as much as a

crop as it did a fuel with slaves regularly given sugar water to prompt them to work harder

for longer hours. That sugar water over the years would evolve into the coal as we see on today's

store shelves. Drinks that deliver loads of sugar to those who have now been deemed by science as

pre-diabetics, based sadly on race science, a concept that you'd think would have ended a very,

very, very long time ago, but still thrives very much to this day.

This embodying of diabetes and race, despite there being

no biological difference in humans based on race, fuels a pharmaceutical and

technological industry that sees in African Americans bio capital that can be

researched over and over and over again. Research that reinforces the position

of the powerful supported by its scientific evidence found through an

investigative lens that has never turned on power or the powerful.

So what happens when a disease is not only racialized despite it having nothing to do with race,

but the science's focus is only on a cure and not on a prevention?
