Danny Shapiro is the best-selling author of the memoirs, Our Glass, Still Writing, Devotion, Slow motion, and five novels including black and white and

family history.

She's appeared on Oprah's Super Soul Sunday and in The New Yorker, L, The New York Times book review, the Los Angeles Times, and this American life

among others. She's taught in the writing programs at Columbia, NYU, the new

school, and Wesleyan University and is the co-founder of the Siren Land Writers

Conference in Pozitano, Italy.

Danny lives with her family in Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Well, we wanted to do this for a while.

We're finally doing it. Take me back, because we're both Jersey girls.

I mean, you've written nine books.

You've had this incredible career.

Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer since you were a little?

I always wrote? I always I was one of those kids who read under the covers with a flashlight. But Jersey girl that I was I love that we're sitting here too.

Could you imagine yourself when you were like, you know, seven years old in New Jersey? I couldn't.

No. I didn't grow up knowing writers. I didn't grow up knowing, I grew up loving books books but the idea that there were people who actually wrote them somehow alluded me

And so it really wasn't until I got to college and I met for the first time working writers who I went to Sarah Lawrence College
