| 0:00.0 | Welcome to this episode of the award-winning Best of the Left podcast in which we shall |
| 0:07.4 | learn the history and the process of how America's Empire, which currently spans the globe, |
| 0:13.9 | was built and what principles we have held firmly to from beginning to end. |
| 0:19.5 | Before we get started though, I have a couple of thoughts for you. |
| 0:22.2 | Obviously, this is a touchy subject because everyone tends to love the country they're |
| 0:28.4 | from, maybe none more than Americans love for America. |
| 0:33.6 | So I have no doubt that today's episode will challenge some people, but I don't think |

| 1:19.8 | out in the physical world. |
| 1:22.8 | Not about individual people being bad or people today who have pride in their country being |
| 1:31.9 | wrong or bad or anything like that. |
| 1:34.9 | So I want you to come away from this episode with a more nuanced understanding of history, |
| 1:40.1 | but not so that you have something to feel bad about or guilty about. |
| 1:45.2 | And so that you can understand how America is seen from much of the outside world, so |
| 1:52.7 | that you can take that information and then advocate for policies in the modern era that |
| 1:58.1 | take that history into consideration. |
