In this video, we'll explore 13 key differences between Buddhism and Christianity,

starting with the origins of Buddhism.

Buddhism began in the 6th to 5th centuries BC, in the region now on the border between the modern India and Nepal.

It was founded by Siddhartha Gardima who was born a prince.

At the age of 29, Gardima left his wife and son to seek deeper religious understanding.

At the age of 35, he experienced spiritual enlightenment and spent the rest of his life as a religious leader,

leading a movement of monks and nuns who spread his teaching known as Dharma.

Now, this leader was called by his followers as Lord with the title of the Buddha, meaning the awakened one.

And thus, how everybody calls him Buddha from now on. Buddhism has sacred scriptures which are divided into three baskets,

rules for monks and nuns, the teachings of Buddha, and the advanced philosophical teachings.

Globally, Buddhism has roughly 500 million followers, with the highest percentages found

in the countries like Cambodia, Thailand and Maymar.

In the United States, approximately 1.2 million adults identify as Buddhists,

with California having the largest Buddhist population.

The presence of Buddhism in America has grown significantly,

with over 1,000 Buddhist centers and temples nationwide,

reflecting the religion's expanding influence.

Is Buddhism a religion?

Now, if one's definition of religion is limited to belief in the idea of a Creator God,

then no, Buddhism is not a religion, because it doesn't teach a Creator God.

However, if you understand religion as a belief in God, gods, or spirits, then yes. Buddhism does believe in gods and spirits.
