This podcast is time to come out the week before Thanksgiving, so what could be better

than to give you a little encouragement as you head into it? Holidays like Thanksgiving

are wonderful opportunities to work out externally what we believe internally. It's one thing

to be all about Christian culture, but doing the work of establishing and preserving

this Christian culture is another thing. It requires a humble work ethic of rolling

up your sleeves and being up to your elbows and food prep. And it also requires a low

view of yourself and a high view of biblical obedience. Let me begin with the high view

of biblical obedience. If your heart's not right with God, then he despises all your

pie baking and your beautiful table setting. Are you harboring resentment or bitterness

toward your family, toward coworkers or fellow Christians? Are you competing and undermining

their work in the community? Then repent. Don't have a Thanksgiving feast until you can

thank God for those who have wronged you and sought forgiveness from those you have

wronged. Don't put this off. This requires humility and it means that you will have to

kill your pride at the cross. What duties has God given you to do that you've shirked?

Are you convicted by the sermon? But then go about your week as though you didn't hear

it? Has your husband asked you to take care of something that you haven't? Have you

rolled grievances around in your mind, letting them take root there? Don't put it off

anymore? Clean your heart. Are you weighed down by worries and cares? John Bunyan says

this. Your heart must not be stuffed with covering cares of this world, for they are of a

choking nature. Think of that when you're stuffing the turkey. Don't let your heart be stuffed

with choking cares. Cast all these cares on him. Don't listen to them. All this to say confess your
