Turkish and raised in Germany, he has made many films dealing with sudden dislocation

and how people respond to it. Akun won best screenplay at Khan for The Edge of Heaven,

and he's also justly celebrated for the intense drama head-on and for crossing the bridge,

a documentary about the Istanbul music scene. His latest, in the fade fade will be released in the US on December 27.

It was nominated for a Palm Door and its star Diane Kruger, one best actress at Cannes for her gripping performance in it.
