joined by Dr. Tom Schreiner. Dr. Schreiner is the James Buchanan Harrison Professor of New

Testament Interpretation and Professor of Biblical Theology at the Southern Baptist Theological

Seminary. He is the author of many books, including but not limited to the law and its fulfillment,

a Pauline Theology of Law, interpreting the Pauline Epistles, Paul and Apostle of God's glory

in Christ, a Pauline Theology, and the Baker Exegetical Commentary on Romans, which I have to say,

I told him off air, is my favorite modern commentary on the Book of Romans in one that I would

highly encourage you to pick up Dr. Schreiner. Thank you for making time to be with us today.

Great to be with you. Well, we are really excited to have you on because we're discussing Romans

this season and today's chapter. For many folks, I feel like it's one of the more confusing,

troubling, tricky chapters in Paul's letter to the church in Rome. And so normally we read the

whole of the text, but since we're discussing a chapter today, I'm just going to read Romans 7,

21 through 25, and then we can jump into the conversation. So Romans 7 beginning in verse 21.

So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.

For I delight in the law of God in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war

against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.

Wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus

Christ our Lord. So then I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh, I serve the

law of sin. So as we enter Romans 7, Dr. Schreiner, could you maybe help us kind of recap and review

where is Paul and his kind of line of argumentation through the letter to the church in Rome? When we

get to Romans 7, it's obviously embedded in a context, it's halfway through this letter about

what's been going on? Why is Paul saying this now in Romans 7? Yeah. Well, I would say if you look
