Summary

So many men are afraid to even talk about style. In my experience, they believe that it's just not that important when it comes to being a man or they don't want to be viewed as anything less than manly.

I get it. I used to be the same way. That was until I understood the power of dressing well and leveling up your presence. Dressing well isn't about a well-tailored suit, fancy shoes, and overpriced jeans. It's about being deliberate and intentional about sharing with the world who you really are.

My friend, Ryan Magin joins me today to talk about what role style plays in masculinity, why men are afraid to elevate their style, something he calls "enclothed cognition" and the "halo effect," and how to use your style to have more and be more.
RYAN MAGIN

Gentlemen, my guest today is my good friend, Ryan Magin.

I met Ryan three years ago as I was launching Order of Man and the StyleCon conference. I'll admit, I'm not one who is very good when it comes to what I wear and how I look.

But, I've learned a ton from Ryan about the way you look has proven to not only increase confidence in yourself but confidence from others too.

Ryan dresses well, he looks good, and his game is on-point (although I will say his style is very different than mine). But, that's the point he makes today. Is that in order to look and feel good, you have to find a style that works for you.

And, that's exactly what I've seen him do over the last three years for himself as I've watched what he's done for himself, his business, and his clients.

Guys, take notes, listen to this with an open mind, and learn how to use your style as another tool to get what you want.

Guys, my guest today is my good friend Ryan McGinn. I met Ryan roughly three years ago as I was launching order of man at the style con conference. I will admit I'm not one who is very good when it comes to what I wear and how I look.

2:31.4

But I've learned a ton from Ryan about the way that you look has proven not only to increase confidence in yourself, but confidence from other people as well. So Ryan dressed as well. He looks good. His game is on point.

2:44.4

Although I will say and he'll be the first to admit that our styles are very, very different. But that's the point that he makes today is that in order to look and feel good, you have to find a style that works for you. And that is exactly what I've seen him do over the past three years for himself as I've washed what he's done in his own life and his business and for his clients.

Guys, take notes. Listen to this with an open mind and learn how to use your style as another tool to get exactly what you want.

3:11.4

Yeah.

3:12.4

Ryan, what's up, brother? Glad you are on the show today. How's it going? Ryan, I appreciate you having me on. Yeah, this has been a long time in the works. I know I've been stringing you along. It's more my fault than it is yours. But either way, I'm glad you hear, brother.

3:23.4

Don't worry, man. You got a big platform going on. I'm just happy to be able to bring my message to your people. So if I would add away another month, I would have been cool with it.

3:31.4

You know, I think this is an important topic. It's actually probably one that frankly, I don't address a whole lot just because it's not necessarily in my wheelhouse, which is why it's good to have experts like you come on the show. And what's really interesting is when we start talking about style and masculinity, it's very polarizing. I've noticed, like either guys are like, yeah, you have to worry about the way that you look and the way that you dress in your appearance. Or they're like, no, that stupid real men don't worry about that stuff. Why the polarity do you think?

3:55.4

I'm a member of your group, and I've been in your group since for probably since close to the star. And I'm one of the ones that copops in there. I like to stir the pot away. It's because I get so audience man. And I got it to be I kind of I appreciate that, although it adds to my played at times.

4:10.4

Oh, I will keep it at bay. No, it's good. It's good to have these types of discussions though. Yeah, I mean, I just feel like I mean, especially seeing it in your group and I think I think that too. There's what for whatever reason, I don't know there is like this this shift that happened where it's like,

4:24.4

all of a sudden, like guys, they shouldn't care how they dressed. So they shouldn't care what people think about how they dress because somehow in some way, that deflates their masculinity and makes them less of a man because they care about their appearance.

4:37.4

And I used to be one of those guys, like literally I would like, I would wear the worst type of stuff. I mean, and I grew up kind of with that f you mindset where I was like, you know, I was been an entrepreneur for like 10 years now.
