| 0:58.4 | So, two years ago, I interviewed about 500 parents and I say, what do you want for |
| 1:04.2 | your kids? I only got one answer. They want their kids to be what? Happy. |
| 1:09.8 | Happy more than respectful. Happy more than hard working. Happy more than |
| 1:16.6 | compassionate. As your therapist today, can I tell you this? I've learned in 30 |
| 1:21.8 | years of doing family counseling. You cannot make another human being happy. |
| 1:28.0 | But what you can do, you can do two things if you want your kids to be happy. |
| 1:35.9 | Number one, you have to be happy. Our children don't learn happy and they really |
| 1:41.4 | don't learn values. They witness these things, don't they? We can't teach them. |
| 1:46.4 | They witness them. They watch them. They learn their values. They figure out |
| 1:52.0 | how to be happy. They learn what's right and wrong from being in the constant |
| 1:56.3 | presence of people who live those values, who live that happiness, who model |
| 2:03.9 | those things. So, we can't make our kids happy. We can't teach them how to be |
| 2:09.2 | happy. But number one, you need to be happy. You know, sometimes I would have |
| 2:15.5 | family counseling and the parents would go and I would just be talking to the |
| 2:18.8 | kids and I would say to the kids, this was always one of my number one questions |
