Little did we know when we started this about, two years ago that we thought we'd do eight or

there's still a lot of life left in Jefferson in the last nine years and of course we haven't built the University of Virginia. We have not talked about the

renewed friendship between Jefferson and John Adams, or the

very difficult family problems that beset Jefferson in his last years, not including almost hopeless indebtedness.

But we have one or two programs left to go in the series.

But I really have to say, I liked the way you approach this, David,

because what you're talking about is the graciousness

of Jefferson's world, how no matter how poor he was or how difficult circumstances

around him were, he was this serene, generous, gracious man and attractive

to almost everybody because he was just such an unusual sort of human being.
