This is the third of a three-part series, The Tale of the Unborn Victim, where we have been discussing the investigation into the 2001 murder of Crystal Taylor, who was five months pregnant at the time.

Where we last left off, we were going through many of the things investigators were uncovering about

Derek Smyr as they were doing what they could to try and build their case against him

we left off talking about Smyire's character and his demeanor in his dealings with women, with this case,

with the investigation, and how he's been able to dodge these charges for so many years. Things are beginning to

sack up against Meyer however and the more investigators uncover about his

past, the more that time passes, the more people are willing to come forward and finally speak out as to their

experiences with him the more damning this case is becoming against him.

So let's pick it up from there.

The back and forth between Derek Smyr and police carried on.

All the things that they knew about him, his personality,

it enabled him to conduct himself with a level of confidence anytime he spoke to investigators about Crystal.

He had gotten away with just about everything up to this point, so he's got to feel pretty

untouchable by now.

But they kept pressing on.

And in looking over the case, from the most recent conversations that they had with Smyr.

There had been something that he said that they almost overlooked.

He mentioned that way back in 2001

on the day that Crystal was murdered. He had brought something up about that day.
