David Cronenberg. Welcome to the show. Thanks a lot. Okay, so first of all you've

said that when you were a teenager you were reading science

fiction magazines and submitting stories to them so which science fiction

magazines did you read? There were three primary ones, fantasy and

science fiction, galaxy, and astounding.

And I think of the three, fantasy and science fiction was my favorite because it was the most broad in terms of the kind of

things that they published.

Astounding was more hardcore science, tech kind of sci-fi, and Galaxy was I think somewhere in between so it was

fantasy and science fiction magazine that I submitted a story to when I was about

16 and I got a really great rejection letter,

which was written, you know, as it was one page,

which was, on one side, it was printed cover of one of the

of the recent issues and on the other side was handwritten I think it was

handwritten well maybe it was typed it said this came quite close. We would be glad to see more. And so that was very encouraging, although I never did actually submit another story, but it was nonetheless very encouraging.
