And that is the theme of the show this week.

We've been, we've received a couple of, a number of letters about recent publications

about slavery and Thomas Jefferson, and we felt it was time to

revisit that subject. And really I wanted to discuss it publicly and with you David

because I don't have any Pat answers to this. I don't have any

I don't know what I think about these things and so when we get a letter saying how dare you this or what's wrong with you because you X or why are you in denial and why are you whitewashing Jefferson then I think about it. You know, when I saw that letter, I thought, well, maybe we do. Maybe we do whitewash Jefferson. So let's talk about it. Let's talk about it. We can't pretend to know what what the right answer to these

questions is but we can be honest and I think in this show you and I have it's I

think people can hear the pain and strain in our voices. I could hear it in yours.

I think people will understand that we don't have a glib or complacent view of this at all that just the opposite it's there is a kind of

crippling energy to all of this that makes it extremely hard to know quite what to think about Jefferson

or about what you and I do week by week.
