And we have Ben from Homemade Modern on the podcast this week. Big topic is talking about

sustainability but also making architecture, and just overall, well I was going to, I guess, overall design, more

obtainable and less expensive.

Yeah, I didn't realize he was such an entrepreneur.

I think that it's a refreshing take on what we do, what builders do in the industry from more of one like an academic perspective but also an

entrepreneurial perspective and like the ethics behind it. Yeah. I think is is really interesting and you know we all strive to build the biggest coolest most expensive house where he's on he's working almost in the opposite direction for a really great

reason. Yeah it was a good one. So we we were we were starting to talk about these container houses and I'd like to actually jump right into that because that is something that you're working on.

You've been working on for what over a year now the one the one that you advertise right yeah so I bought some

land in Joshua tree about two years ago spent three to four months permitting a shipping container house just a single family residence on 10 acres.

Home Depot was the lead sponsor for this project and it took about three to four months for permits

and then spent about 12 to 16 weeks building it all out. It's been done for

actually quite a while now but we've been kind of slowly releasing a 10-part video series about the whole project from permits to occupancy.

And I think right now we're sitting at about 18 to 19 million views for the series and got to got to show in detail a lot of the myth that I've sort of been there about shipping container houses, about how they're going to be this affordable solution, this way to the house, the homeless and all these things.

And it's so interesting now that so many people call me like this the shipping

container house guy as if I'm a big fan of it and really the reason I did the series

was much more of a myth-ing kind of thing to be like look yes you can you can build a house out of anything doesn't mean it's a good idea and when I was an architecture professor, I'd always see these, you know, these students that were mesmerized by this kind of dystopian future aesthetic, this very blade runner meets junkyard kind of burning man look and being like oh yeah you can just

plug in and play the shipping containers like Legos I'm like all right if there's if there's one

thing I've learned in my experience involving construction is that nothing is completely plug and play and nothing goes together like Legos.

It may seem like that, it may be marketed that way.
