Ch. 4: Do Videogame Stereotypes Hurt Men? - PBS Game:Show - Air Date 08-2-13
Games continue the cultural narrative of big and strong men, "manning up" and being the hero. As you play, you kill hundreds or thousands of other men, without regard for the emotional toll on one's psyche.

Michael Kimmel, a scholar of masculinities studies at Stony Brook University, on the source of this shared frustration — which he calls "aggrieved entitlement" — and about the steps forward for a society that still misunderstands so much about gender.
Ch. 6: Tony Porter: A call to men - @TEDTalks - Air Date 12-10-10
Tony Porter makes a call to men everywhere: Don't "act like a man." Telling powerful stories from his own life, he shows how this mentality, drummed into so many men and boys, can lead men to disrespect, mistreat and abuse women and each other.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome everyone to today's episode of the Best of the Left podcast. |
| 0:03.6 | Today's episode happens to be a rerun, but I want to tell you about it. |
| 0:07.6 | And I think you'll want to hear it, even if you've heard it before. |
| 0:11.6 | But first, I have an unrelated story and I'm going to back up several years for context |
| 0:16.4 | because I love context. So several years ago, I'm like five, six in that range. |
| 0:22.7 | I came to the slow and grudging conclusion that, okay, yes, I guess I really am affected |
| 0:29.9 | by the sad, the seasonal effect of disorder. To be honest, I didn't even believe that it was a thing |
| 0:37.1 | when I first heard of it and thought like, why would that be a thing? And then, as I said, |
| 0:42.9 | slowly, grudgingly over the years, I concluded, no, okay, I guess that really is what's going on. |
| 0:50.0 | And so then fast forward, you know, a few years to a couple of years ago, probably like 2017 or so, |
| 0:56.1 | in November, I came up with a coping mechanism, one of many that I use. |
| 1:02.6 | And I dubbed it the Sunshine Policy. So now the show has a Sunshine Policy for the month of |
| 1:11.6 | fall, winter in that range. And the Sunshine Policy is that if it's a show day, which usually |
| 1:19.2 | means sitting in front of the computer for eight to ten hours indoors, if it's a show day, |
| 1:24.9 | and I wake up and I get ready to start working, and I realize that it is a beautiful, sunny day outside, |
| 1:33.9 | then I give myself permission to not work and instead go outside and go for a walk in the park and |
| 1:40.8 | watch foliage turn colors and things like that. Because you never know when you're going to have |
| 1:46.4 | another chance, it's November, it could just be gray and rainy and cold and windy or all of the above, |
| 1:55.1 | on any given day. And so when the stars align and the weather is good, but my schedule says I'm |
| 2:02.4 | supposed to sit indoors and stare at a computer all day, I say no. So that's the Sunshine Policy. |
| 2:09.3 | And that's what ended up happening today. It was a beautiful day outside. The leaves are changing. |
| 2:15.2 | I gave myself permission to go for a walk in the park. And the reason why I know that I am |
