Today on the show will be speaking with Patrick Rothfus,

author of the epic fantasy trilogy The King Killer Chronicle.

The first two books The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear are out now.

His latest book, The Slow Regard of Silent Things, is a novella set in the same world.

So Pat, welcome to the show.

Hey there.

All right, and so your new book is called The Slow Regard of Silent Things.

And in the very first line of the author's introduction you say, quote,

you might not want to buy this book. So why do you say that? Well a lot of people that have read the first two books are eagerly awaiting the third book and you know they make no bones about that

online you know people are very eager for it they're impatient it, they're insistent upon getting it. And this is not

the third book. I really wanted to make that clear to people because if you pick this book up thinking it's

going to be the third, it's not.

And so they're bound to be disappointed and I don't like disappointing people.

The other thing is if you've never read any of my books, this would be a really odd place to start.

And so what I talk about and that author's forward is you know if you've heard

of me and you're curious about my work and you look at this book and you go oh that

looks kind of bite-size and fun and maybe I give it a try. I'm just

really encouraging people that that would not be the best place to start. It's like

coming in halfway through a movie you you know, if it's a decent movie, you're going to be baffled about what's going on.

And so I want to avoid that at all, if it all possible.
