Today, I'm standing on the towpath of the Grand Union Canal,

11 miles west of the severed pieces of Paula Fields,

8 miles west of the suitcase of Martyr Ligman,

6 miles north of the Thames Topath murders, and two and a half miles east of the

family of Amarjit Chohan. Coming soon to Murder Mile. This is the Hanwell flight,

a series of locks on the most southerly stretch of the Grand Union Canal, giving steady passage of boats, beginning high on the hill at South Hall, dropping down past three bridges, along the back of the old Hanwell Asylum, past Lock Cottage, Brentford Weir, Trumper's Bridge, Elthorne and Boston Manor Parks, and ending at the basement of Brentford Gaging Lock and the River Thames beyond.

Stuck at the far end of West London, but technically Middlesex.

This is a popular place for dog walkers, joggers and strollers, seeking a lung full of fresh air,

as well as cyclists avoiding the trucks and buses of the surrounding roads.

Being part rural and part industrial, it's mostly a muddy towpath which skirts the descending canal,
