The temple, of course, was of extreme importance. It was the center of the

universe for Second Temple Jews. The Second Temple was Second Temple Judaism. But if one didn't

live around Jerusalem, maybe they only visited the temple once a year, or even once or twice in a lifetime,

if ever. The temple was the place where the sacrifice to God occurred. There's no doubt about that.
