New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was charged with corruption-related offenses for the second time in 10 years. Prosecutors have charged him with with services fraud and conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right.

The indictment accuses Menendez and his wife of accepting hundreds of thousands of

dollars of bribes in exchange for the senator's influence, including providing sensitive U.S. government

information and secretly helping to steer military aid to Egypt.

Prosecutors allege bribes included cash, gold, payments towards a mortgage, a luxury car, and putting Menendez's wife on

payroll for a low or no-show job.

As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he had substantial influence over these

types of matters.

Senate Democratic caucus rules indicate he'll have to give up his position as chairman

because of the indictment.

Menendez called the claims against him false and indicated he will fight the charges. The senator was

previously indicted on corruption charges in 2015 but the trial resulted in a hung

jury and a judge acquitted him of some charges while the rest were eventually

dropped.

Local officials are calling on the Biden administration for help as

thousands of migrants have crossed the southern border this week.

The feds are sending some 800 new active duty troops to the border.

As a Homeland Security official tells CNN migrant crossings along the border

surpassed 8,600 over the last 24 hours.
