amid an intensifying rift between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu.

So we will continue to stand up for Israel's bedrock right to defend itself.

And we will also continue to urge the protection of civilians during conflict and to increase the flow of humanitarian aid

into Gaza. A senior defense official says Austin was meeting with Israeli government officials

to try to get a quote, very clear articulation of Israel's assessment of its campaign

in Gaza as pressure to protect civilians ramps up.
