President Joe Biden will address the nation tonight to explain his decision to drop out of the 2024 race.

And CNN has brand new polling out today,

taking a pulse of where voters stand

since Biden's exit.

CNN political director David Chalion breaks it down.

Krista, in our brand new CNN poll conducted by SSRS,

we are showing a race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in this first snapshot since

Joe Biden dropped out. A race with no clear leader. Donald Trump

with 49% support. Kamala Harris with 46% support. That is a closer contest

than it was with Joe Biden in the race and we see Harris doing better with key

constituencies young voters black voters Hispanic voters female voters she is

doing better among all those groups than did Joe Biden.

CNN's Steve Kontorno has more on the new strategy the Trump campaign's adopting with Biden out and Harris pretty much in.

So Krista, Trump's team insists they were preparing for a change at the top of the

Democratic ticket for weeks and certainly when you talk to senior Trump advisors they continue to say

that the playbook they built to take on Biden will also work on Harris namely

hammering her on issues like crime immigration and, and inflation. But sources close to Trump

also acknowledge to us that Harris's candidacy absolutely injects uncertainty

into this race and Trump's campaign will certainly spend the next few weeks rushing to

define her before she can define herself but clearly they are setting some
