For the first time, at the same time, auto union workers are on strike against all three of America's biggest automakers,

Ford, General Motors, and Stolantis.

So if you want to buy a GM, Jeep, or Ford car,

what does this mean for you?

CNN senior reporter, Peter Valdez-DPena is with me now to explain.

Well, Krista, dealerships will stay open with enough new and used car inventory to go around

for a few weeks, but if the strike expands, cars could get more expensive and you could be

waiting longer for a new car, rather than getting one right off the lot.

So the United Auto Workers Union is only taking action in Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio right now.

So does that mean production stops immediately?

A lot of people had expected the UAW to strike at plants that make major components,

like engines and transmissions. That would have had a broad impact,

ultimately stopping production at many other factories. Instead, they walked out at so-called

final assembly plants, meaning only vehicles made at those specific factories, like the Ford

Bronco, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Wrangler are impacted.

For now, there's no broader impact, but that could change as things go forward.

Well, the union is demanding a 40% pay increase over the length of a four-year contract,
