Hello from CNN I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, January 8th.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled over the weekend and into today, as the FAA temporarily grounds some Boeing 737 Max Nine planes.

That's after a chunk of an Alaska Airlines aircraft blew off mid-flight on Friday, leaving behind a hole the size of a refrigerator,

while passengers were 16,000 feet in the air.

Luckily, no one was seated next to the door plug that broke off,

and now federal investigators are trying to figure out why it happened.

And today we've learned that a warning light for the plane's auto pressurization

had lit up three times in the past month and the airline had stopped the plane

from being flown over the ocean as a precaution. He is the chair of the National

Transportation Safety Board Jennifer Hamedi. We want to look at that, but it may have absolutely nothing to do with what occurred in the cabin

of the aircraft during that event.

The NTSB says it's also missing the cockpit voice recordings because they were automatically

overwritten.
