When Opportunity knocks, will you be there to answer?

While that question may sound like a tagline to a Pixar movie,

it's a question I've asked myself on numerous occasions.

For majority of my 20s, I loved my life while still recognizing that I was somewhat in a rut

both personally and professionally. I'd end my work week with two straight days of going out with

friends, only to lumber back into work on Monday feeling like I'd been hit by a bus.

I was burning the candle at both ends, but I wasn't truly inspired by pretty much anything.

I wasn't dissatisfied with my life. I didn't hate my co-workers. I truly loved the people who

surrounded me. But I still had that feeling of what if that lingered before bedtime.

It wasn't until I received a job offer to become a full-time writer that I realized how incredibly

real those what-ifs were. Leading up to that point, I'd applied to numerous jobs outside of my

experience level in hopes of landing something that I was proud of. Unfortunately, not only did I never

get one of those jobs, but I hardly even ever got an interview. The job I'm talking about, though,

the one where I write full-time in a city that I knew would be lucky enough to move to,

well, it kind of just fell in my lap. No resume sent, no interview, no hesitation to accept.

Opportunity knocked, and I was there to greet them at the door with a cocktail in hand.

That was my big break. The moment when a long chapter of my life was closed. A time I can look

back on and safely say, had that not happened, I have no idea where I'd be today.
