A new law in Connecticut is expected to go in effect on October 1st, banning first cousin marriages.

Where?

Connecticut.

Both Democrat and Republican lawmakers agreed on the bill earlier this year.

It doesn't say, because usually when this happens in the South, when they ban it, there's always some guy raised his hand.

He goes, ah, my uncle's about to marry a 13-year-old, you know, that kind of stuff.

According to officials, procreation between first cousins can increase the chance of birth defects.

It's just so wrong because of the birth defects.

State law already bans people from marrying a parent, grandparent, sibling, or child.

Thankfully.

Yeah, if you're marrying your grandparent.

When does this law go into effect? October 1st. Do you think there's people trying to get their wedding exhibit real quick? It's Connecticut, though. I don't know. Basically, it sounds like it was something. They just realized it was still there, you know? I love, yeah. Do you think they still, like, have fun? Do you have to ask your uncle if you can marry his daughter?

In over 15 other states, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont, people can still marry their first cousin.

Yeah, apparently...

This says historically, Connecticut did allow first cousin marriage.

Maybe that's a New England thing, you know?
