0:26.0	I'm new to this guest hosting gig and I must admit I was nervous to come on the day after Christmas wondering whether there would be any
0:36.0	news but the news does not stop because of the holidays.

0:47.4	That one, because there is a lot of news to get to, so let's cover it.
0:52.4	First, and you may be happy to learn even on
0:55.7	Christmas Trump cannot escape his legal issues it's hard to keep track at this point
1:01.1	given the 91 criminal counts and four different cases but the
1:06.8	one we're talking about right now is related to his efforts to overturn the
1:10.8	results of the 2020 presidential election.
1:14.0	His legal team submitted a late night filing
1:16.9	just before Christmas asking a federal appeals court
1:20.2	to throw out this case, making the bold argument that Donald Trump possesses absolute
1:28.0	presidential immunity. This filing of course comes after the Supreme Court declined Special Counsel Jack Smith's request to fast track the case, deciding whether Trump is immune from prosecution for crimes he allegedly committed while he was
1:45.2	president. The US Court of Appeals here in DC gets to determine first whether
1:50.4	Trump can be prosecuted in this case.
1:53.3	Special Counsel Jack Smith is trying to stay on target here
1:56.8	with a March 4th trial start date.
2:00.3	The DC Court of Appeals apparently is working quickly on this with oral arguments scheduled to start January 9th
