Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Monday, December 11th,

2023 and we begin with one of the biggest and brightest stars in the night sky

momentarily dimming in a one-of-a-kind eclipse.

Late tonight into early tomorrow morning,

an oblong asteroid known as Leona

will pass in front of Beetlejuice,

a red super giant in the constellation Orion.

The Associated Press reports that the rare spectacle should be visible to millions of people

along a narrow path stretching from Central Asia across southern Europe to Miami, Florida and

parts of Mexico. Our sun is much closer to Earth but according to NASA,

Beetlejuice is thousands times brighter and 700 times bigger so huge in fact

that if it replaced our sun it would stretch beyond Jupiter.

Dodger Nation is celebrating the biggest baseball catch in decades.

Over the weekend the team landed two-way sensation Shohay Otani with a monster 10-year $700 million contract that isn't just

the richest in major league history, but the fattest in all of sports.

For the Dodgers, Patience was the name of the game.

CBS News reports they've had their eye on him since he was in high school and

would have signed him after graduation but Chauhe decided to stay and play in Japan. He then came to the States and played six seasons with the Angels before becoming a free agent.

For Chauhe's first year in Dodger Blue, he won't be on the mound. He's still recovering from elbow surgery, but he's expected

to be fully available as a hitter.

A California teenager is now the youngest in state history to pass the bar exam and he

did it on the first try.
