Summary

Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander look ahead to a stacked weekend of good college hoops, but start at the top with Duke landing Vernon Carey Jr., the No. 2 prospect in the class of 2019. From there, predictions and chatter on undefeated Nevada playing undefeated Arizona State late Friday night (6:49). And on Saturday, Kentucky-Seton Hall (15:20) leads off a loaded day slate. Also going down Louisville-Indiana and Wisconsin-Marquette's big games (18:20) and the CBS noon tip on Saturday of Michigan State-Florida (20:20). And yes, Buffalo -- unbeaten! -- gets some shine (23:50). The big game on Sunday is Gonzaga-Tennessee (26:35), but there's something the guys have to address with Texas (33:15), which has a big game vs. Purdue.

Hey there, it's scary Parish. It's Friday, December 7, 2018. Welcome back to the Ion College

basketball podcast. Got Matt Norlander here with me. Yes, we are. We are going to discuss

0:15.9

upcoming games on this podcast because it's a pretty good weekend for games. We're getting

0:19.7

Nevada, Arizona State Kentucky, Seaton Hall, Michigan State Florida, Wisconsin Market,

0:24.9

Great Nebraska, VCU, Virginia, Texas, Purdue, weekends, biggest game is probably on Sunday,

0:30.6

Tennessee, Gonzaga, and Phoenix, two top 10 teams on Sunday afternoon, Grant Williams

against a really Hatchimora should be great. But I wanted to start on the big recruiting

0:40.4

news of the past couple of days, specifically Vernon Carey's commitment to Duke, the 16th

0:45.7

center picked the Blue Devils over Michigan State and North Carolina. I thought it was

0:50.4

0:56.1

Duke has landed at least one top three prospect in the class. So that's a good run. Nobody

1:00.0

else can match that too. I think it does probably answer some questions in some way about

1:06.9

whether Duke was going to be able to continue to recruit at the highest level of sport in

1:11.5

the absence of Jeff Capel. He of course left my Shosheski staff last March, became the

1:17.6

head coach pit. And there's no denying that Jeff was a big part of Duke's recruiting

1:21.4

wins in recent years. But it does appear that the staff might might be okay with that.

1:25.8

And Duke now has two five star prospects committed in the class of 2019. And that class

1:31.5

currently ranks six nationally according to 24 seven sports. It'll likely get better

1:35.8

going full or considering Duke is seriously involved with at least two other top 10 prospects.

1:40.7

So it looks like Duke is going to be able to continue recruiting at the highest level

1:45.2

of sport even without Jeff Capel on that staff. And lastly, I thought the commitment speaks

1:54.2

to the awareness of the Duke staff. My point being this on the surface, it made no sense
