Hello, I'm Alicia McCarthy, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Thursday

the 12th of June, where the Foreign Secretary praises a new deal to smooth out crossings at the

Gibraltar border. Britain's commitment to Gibraltar remains as solid as the rock itself.

Also tonight, opposition MPs and peers give their verdict on yesterday's spending review.

Just two sentences in a four-page statement, social care deserves better.

I was disappointed almost to the point of devastation, quite frankly, to see adult social care overlooked.

And the nine and a half million pound door that needs a full-time member of staff to open it.

The thing is a complete white elephant and a disaster.

But first, the Foreign Secretary has described a new deal

governing the Spain-Jubraltar border as fluid, unique and practical.

David Lamy told MPs it fixed the last unresolved issue

between the UK and the EU following Brexit.

He argued that if agreement hadn't been reached a new European system of

entry and exit controls due to come in later this year, would have introduced a hard border,

meaning checks on all goods and passports. Chaos and backlogs, endangering the livelihoods of

British citizens in Gibraltar, wrecking the Territory's economy and possibly

costing hundreds of millions of pounds a year, placing pressure ultimately on the UK taxpayer

to pick up the bill.

The Foreign Secretary said the UK would never agree anything that didn't have the full

support of the government of Gibraltar.
