Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Wednesday the 11th of June,

when the Chancellor set out her spending plans for the rest of this Parliament.

In place of pessimism, division and defeatism, I choose national renewal.

The Conservatives say Rachel Reeves has lost control of the public finances.

The right honourable lady knows she will need to come back here in the autumn with yet more taxes.

Also tonight, artists pose another challenge for ministers over artificial intelligence.

They are not stupid, but they are very worried that their government is.

Unlike the budget, the Chancellor does not come to the Commons to deliver a spending review

every year. Instead, the government sets out its spending plans every few years.

When Rachel Reeve stood up to noisy labour cheers,

she said her driving purpose was to make working people better off.

We are renewing Britain.

But I know that too many people in too many parts of our country are yet to feel it.

This government's task, my chance, a task as Chancellor, and the purpose of this spending review, is to change that.

To ensure that renewal is felt in people's everyday lives,

in their jobs and on their high streets.

Earlier at a meeting of his senior ministers, Sarkir Stama had told the Cabinet

the spending review marked the end of the first phase of the Labour government.

Now the Prime Minister sat next to the Chancellor as she

laid out her plans for the government's day-to-day spending in the coming years.
