Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Friday, December 5th, 2025.

And we begin with Americans pausing this weekend to remember one of the most pivotal days in U.S. history.

84 years ago on December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan launched a surprise attack on the ships

and sailors stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. It was a devastating assault that prompted

the U.S. to get off the sidelines and joined the Allies fighting in World War II.

That decision only took about 27 hours, with President Franklin Roosevelt

famously declaring the 7th of December as a day that will live in infamy. By the thousands

young American men, many still in their teens, enlisted in the armed forces, guided until

the war's end by the slogan, Remember Pearl Harbor.

Today, there's a memorial built over the top of the submerged USS Arizona,

one of the three battleships destroyed in the attack.

Every year, more than 1.8 million people visit it to pay their respects.
