Hello everyone today we are talking to Mr Thomas Jefferson about immigration

isolationism isolationism nationalism what did you think I mean Jefferson is in a certain sense all over the map on these

questions. He is but I really wanted to talk to him about it mostly because I

started doing a little bit of research and I thought all of these quotes that I

found about the things that he had said and you know

Washington said and Hamilton said about immigration I don't know if it's a really

fair thing to dig up because it was so long ago and times then we wanted as many citizens as we could have whereas now we're kind of going,

yeah maybe we got enough people over here.

You know I'm I'm pretty conservative on this question.

So the people that I so admire, they do this every year at Monticello on the 4th of July.

Right, we talked about that.

These immigrants who are from Thailand and Korea and Nigeria

and the Congo, they come here and they study so hard and they then become sort of super Americans.

They know our Constitution better than we do.

They love this. They love America.

Just to watch them is so moving because they take such

pride in having become Americans through this process.

And we take it for granted.

And we're stupid about our system in a way that they aren't. And so when I see

them, David, I think I'm so moved by that. Right. That the idea of America still has that depth of

appeal to people. And then you think of the

millions who just swim the river or come in through our airports and do not go
