Isaiah chapter 11 verse 10

in that day the root of Jesse who shall stand as a signal for the peoples of him shall the

nation's inquire and his resting place shall be glorious. So the root of Jesse here in this text is Jesus. This is a

prophecy about the coming king from the davitic line and the whole picture here is the

nations will inquire of him his standing shall be a signal to the people's.

So the picture is all the peoples coming to Jesus,

all the nations coming to Jesus.

And so, this passage is one of the clear pictures we see in the Old Testament of how Jesus

will be made known and praised and proclaimed among all the nations of the world that people from every

tribe and tongue and people will gather around to give him praise. It's interesting

Paul actually uses this verse in Romans chapter 15

when he's talking about his ambition to see Christ preach where he's not been

named. He wants to get the gospel of those who've never heard it.

And so he draws on Isaiah chapter 11, first 10 to say, the nations need to know about Jesus,

the root of Jesse. And the same thing is true today. There are

nations, there are people groups, their tribes, languages, where the name of Jesus is not known.

I think about people.

I was actually reading this passage.

I remember one time, as I was walking through some unreached villages in Nepal.

By unreached I mean not yet reached with the gospel, with the truth or even the name of Jesus. I would go up to people in these villages.

We would talk through a translator and say, well, what do you know about Jesus? And they would say,
