Summary

Jesus uses the story of Lazarus in John 11 to teach us why bad things happen even to people God loves. We explore five theological realities that explain pain and suffering in the world. • The fall of humanity brought forth pain, strife, and suffering as collateral damage • Demonic attacks cause suffering as Satan seeks to steal, kill, and destroy • Our own sinful choices and poor decisions lead to painful consequences • Other people's sinful choices can cause suffering in our lives • Someti...

Welcome to the Daily Blade. We are going to do a deep dive into John

0:23.8

Chapter 11. And in so doing, we are going to talk about this week a whole bunch of philosophical and

0:30.7

theological ideas that a lot of people question when they come to the Bible or Christianity.

0:38.6

The first one we're going to talk about is why do bad things happen?

John chapter 11, verse 1 says, now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

0:52.0

It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair,

1:44.3

So just to put this on the bottom shelf for you, there are no good people. There was only one good

1:48.9

person. His name was Jesus, and he was crucified on our behalf. But I understand what people are

1:54.3

saying. Why do comparatively good people have terrible things happen to them that seem to be out of

2:00.7

control? Now, I am going to give you five theological realities to good people have terrible things happen to them that seem to be out of control.

2:01.4

Now, I am going to give you five theological realities to explain why bad things happen,

2:06.8

why there is pain, why there is suffering.

2:08.9

Number one, it is collateral damage of the fall.

2:12.0

When Adam and Eve chose to sin, chose to rebel against God, that sin, when it entered the world, it held the door
