Summary

The last show on the Norman Invasion ended in somewhat dramatic circumstances with the death of Strongbow, the leader of the Norman Invasion. As you can imagine the fall out from this was immense.

The episode begins with a group of Normans lead by Raymond le Gros who hear the news when they are deep in Gaelic territory. No one knows how the kings of Gaelic Ireland will react when they hear the news. Some will surely take the chance to revolt. Raymond tries to keep the news secret while he attempts to escape back to the safety of Dublin. Meanwhile other Norman knights in Ireland, seize the opportunity to launch new conquests. This results in one of the most dramatic events of the entire invasion - the conquest of Eastern Ulster.

1:00.8	Norman Knight, Raymond Le Grew, campaign in Munster heard the following news.
1:06.8	The Earl of Pembroke, the Lord of Stragola Nenster and the leader of the Norman
1:10.6	Invasion of Ireland, Richard Fitz Gilbert declared, better known as Strongbo, was dead.
1:17.5	As you can imagine, the implications of this were far-reaching, and in this dramatic episode we pick up the story as Raymond LeGro found himself in a tight and somewhat dangerous spot after hearing of the death of Strongbo.
1:37.2	When Raymond de Gros received the news of Strongboo's death
1:40.4	and on occasion in this episode I will refer to Strongbow simply as the Earl.
1:45.2	He couldn't have been in a worse position.
1:48.1	Deep in Gaelic territory and Munster in the south west of Ireland, he was far from the Norman centre of power in Dublin,
1:55.0	where the key decisions regarding the future of Norman Ireland
1:58.5	would be made in the aftermath of the Earl's death. Indeed, even getting to Dublin was going to be difficult. No one knew
2:06.0	how Gaelic Ireland would react when word got out that Strongbow was dead. It could easily trigger

2:13.0	Aside from these very real concerns though, the news must have been a deeply personal blow to Raymond.
2:20.0	We can only imagine the rush of emotions he must have felt. His relationship with Strongboo was far from simple.
