Summary

In this preposterously 117th episode of the Shut Up and Sit Down podcast Quinns, Ava and Tom are going absolutely LIVE to the UK Games Expo, threatening to snarf endless pizza in Fort, crunch the numbers in 18Chesapeake, and do ‘Good Japanese Business’ in Yokohama. Then, in a secret less-than-live twist, they’ll yoko-yammer-on-about 5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel for far too long.

Apologies for some occasionally crunchy audio at times on this one, and have a great weekend, everybody!

Hello everybody, hopefully we are broadcasting now. Thank you very, very much for your patience.

0:16.4

We recorded a couple of intros to this now because we thought we were alive. We were not.

0:20.5

But the good news for you watching this at home is that we're going to get straight into

0:25.5

games now because who needs an intro when we have 40 minutes left and so many fabulous games to talk

0:31.0

about and we are going to start by saying who we are. My name is Quentin Smith and I am joined

0:35.7

by Ava Foxfort and Tom Brewster. Hello and now I'm going to go straight into talking about a game

0:42.2

and not let those two lovely people talk because we have games to cover and I'm going to start by

0:46.8

talking about fort from later games. So fort is a lovely new card game from the same publisher who

0:53.5

brought you root and vast. It's actually a new version of a game by Grant Rodiak called SPQF which

0:59.0

was about Romans who were animals trying to be the best Roman animals but now fort is about kids

1:04.2

trying to be the best kids. But how do you be the best kids? Well, this is a game about racing to

1:10.2

build up your fort because you're all kids building thoughts. I mean that's going to get your points

1:14.2

but hopefully you're going to get points along the way for little card combos that you'll hopefully

1:18.1

be pulling off. Now the most important thing with fort is do not let the idea of a card game for

1:24.1

the kids lead you into thinking that this is a liked game. Actually, I'm going to get my one criticism

1:29.0

out of the way early. It's something I said in the root review which is that the first time I played

1:32.7

root I found that as the person who taught the game I struggled to enjoy it because I was watching

1:37.0

everyone like a hawk because I had to make sure they weren't making mistakes. I've got to play

1:41.9

properly if you come around to Quinz's house. Are you kidding Ava if anyone doesn't play properly?

1:46.9

That is I mean it's just nobody wants that because then I just have to either like say something

1:51.4

or just physically reach over and touch cards which I did in games of fort because I'm a monster.

1:56.5

So fort does have that in common with root. It's not necessarily it's not complicated. It's just
