π TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:
John 3:3
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Romans 7:4-6
Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death. But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

| 0:09.5 | I am Carrie Green and we began talking yesterday about this new identity that God has |
| 0:16.4 | given you and it is vital that you understand the new identity that God has given |
| 0:21.8 | you if you're going to live in a way that experiences the |
| 0:25.8 | new life he's provided and brings great glory and meaning and purpose to your life. So today I wanted to talk to you about the concept of being |
| 0:36.4 | born again. We heard that term a lot back in the 70s and 80s. It was used a lot |
| 0:42.1 | are you born again? People would ask each other. And I think the |
| 0:46.0 | term has come to be something that's used without really a lot of understanding of what it |
| 0:51.6 | actually means. The phrase comes from John Chapter 3 and Jesus was |
| 0:57.8 | speaking with a man named Nick hademus who was a teacher of the law so to speak. |
| 1:01.6 | He was one of those guys who was very religious. |
| 1:05.0 | And yet he came to Jesus to ask him questions because it seems like Nickandamus was |
| 1:11.3 | starting to be intrigued by Jesus. And so Jesus tells him, you have to be |
| 1:18.0 | born again. And in the Aramaic, which is what the Gospels were originally written in, the word Jesus |
| 1:25.2 | uses actually means born from above. |
| 1:29.6 | So he's not talking about an earthly birth. |
| 1:33.2 | He's talking about being born spiritually. |
| 1:37.0 | Because in chapter 5 of the book of Romans, |
| 1:39.8 | we discover that we all have inherited a sinful identity from Adam, the first man, because |
| 1:48.4 | when he sinned, it tainted his soul, his soul, His soul actually died and he could no longer relate to God in the same way he had before because he had a dead spirit. |
| 2:01.0 | And we inherited that same identity of being a sinful, dead sinner in the eyes of |
| 2:10.1 | God. |
