Today I'm going to talk a little bit about the fruit of the spirit and struck me this

morning that all of the fruit is exercise and demonstrated most when it is counterintuitive

when we don't feel like it, for example.

A natural love is easy when you're with a lovable or lovely person.

But a spiritual love, that is a grace of the Holy Spirit.

And it's most needed when you're dealing with the unlovely, the person who is snappy

at you or lying about you.

And this calls for supernatural love, not natural.

How else would we be able to obey the command to love our enemies unless this is a fruit

of the spirit?

In other words, God provides all we need to obey His commands.

Joy is easy when you've been given an unexpected gift or want a prize or on a wonderful vacation

or you just feel well after a long sickness.

But joy when you've lost a prize possession or you've had hard news or disappointment,

that's another matter.

That's when we need supernatural joy and that joy is found in Christ.

Holy Spirit joy is spiritual, it's supernatural, it's not in the least bit natural.

We don't feel like it.

It is inexplicable, it's not human love and how else could we obey the command to rejoice

in the Lord always?

Again, I will say rejoice in Philippians 4.
