You're hearing bad timing by X-Reyas, featuring my guest Ian Chang on drums.

Ian was born in Hong Kong and attended school in the US.

A voracious listener, he drew inspiration from several disparate musical forms,

ultimately metabolizing them into a uniquely modern style.

Aside from his work with bands such as Sone Lux, Landlady, and Body Language, Ian works

as a solo artist. His utilization of Sun House triggers, live sampling, and light design

have expanded the scope of the drum set.

Now my conversation with Ian Chang.

I mean, I guess, like, I feel like I've always been listening to a lot of music.

The type of music changed a lot over time, so, like, in middle school to like a lot of like pop punk and I remember like being a kid in Hong

Kong and like looking up like all the artists on like all the labels you know

and like probably from like this is probably from the ages of 10 to 13 okay

9 to 13 maybe and like I like, weirdly liked a lot of,

like,

pop trance.

It was really random.
