| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Tech Policy Podcast. I'm Evan Schwargerber. On today's show, following up on our discussion about digital free speech with FEC Commissioner Lee Goodman, you may recall that on episode 107, a recent episode, we did a deep dive into regulating online speech, the history of regulation |
| 0:23.1 | or lack thereof, how we got to the point where political debate really thrives on the |
| 0:27.9 | internet. I don't think anyone doubts that there's a plethora of opinions out there in arguments |
| 0:32.5 | and people are getting at it. And that's what you want in a democracy. But is this consensus |
| 0:37.4 | about a light touch approach |
| 0:38.8 | to regulating online speech fraying? Is it gone completely? And what are the implications for things like |

| 1:46.4 | cause? So what happened since you, since you were just here? I mean, what's going on? |
| 1:52.4 | Well, since I was last year, the Federal Election Commission has disclosed two matters. Well, |
| 1:58.5 | one was an enforcement matter. and the other one was actually |
| 2:02.4 | conducted in public because it was an advisory opinion request, and those are conducted in |
| 2:06.7 | public meeting. But in both cases, the Commission divided its votes three to three on |
