How's it going guys? Super. That means it's going to be a good episode. Yeah,

because Dailin's here. The thing is crossed. Dailin's awesome. The thing is, Dailin has prepared

something very interesting today and the fun part is you have no idea what it is. I do know what it is.

I had actually heard about this particular story. I'll call it a story, Dailin. Is that fair?

Yeah, absolutely. So I've heard about this before. So you're the one that's going to be coming up

to speed on all this. It is fascinating. So take it away, man. Let's fill Matt in on what we're

going to learn about today. So Matt, I have a really simple question for you to start.

Okay. What do you get when you combine a national economic crisis, the unique sociology of a small town

and a notorious town bully? The plot to back to the future.

Not quite. You get this profoundly interesting story that's covered in a book called In

Broad Daylight about a town bully named Ken Rex McElroy. The setting that we'll be discussing

happens in a town called Skidmore, Missouri. Skidmore is about 90 minutes north of Kansas City.

In the most recent census, there were 284 people who lived in Skidmore. At the time where our

story takes place, there were 437 people who lived in Skidmore. And just for a little bit of context,

I've never been to Skidmore. I've never been to Kansas City, but I've discovered this in the

course of researching this story. Missouri is a mostly agricultural state that's going to figure

into our story. Missouri leads the nation, top 10 nationwide in producing soybeans, corn, cotton,

and rice. So we're looking at a small rule agricultural area, not a lot of money. In 1980,
