Hi friends, I'm so glad to have you on the podcast today talking about a topic that does not get nearly enough attention, and that is pelvic pain.

I listen to women every single day, talk about how their pain has been disregarded, how they've been told to relax, to drink alcohol, to take medication, and essentially that they just need to deal with it.

With the message that their pain is not real, and that is destroying trust between medical providers and patients, and it's absolutely false.

So I'm very, very honored to bring you this episode on pelvic pain and some of the causes with a dear friend of mine, Dr. Sonya Balani.

Sonya completed her doctor of medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine Enrichment.

She then had a residency in OB-GYN at New York Presbyterian, and she joined the Smith Institute for a fellowship in the Urology Department under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Moldwen who is a pioneer in the field of pelvic pain.

Her unique and very specialized training allows her to treat patients with both urologic and gynecologic pelvic pain syndromes, which it really encompasses both.

Her clinical interests involve treating patients with vulvoidinia, pelvic floor dysfunction, interstitial cystitis, vulvar dermatosis, and female sexual dysfunction.
