Summary

Better software makes for better functioning hardware. In this episode, we're discussing how to improve your body's software (inputs via your visual system) to improve the hardware (your muscular system). Improving our visual and vestibular system can make it easier for us to see results from our workouts and will allow us more freedom of movement along the way. 4:00 Nervous system input 8:10 The cause of muscle tightness 10:33 Visual and vestibular input 14:05 ...

Welcome back to Fit Body Happy Joints. My name is Shannon. Today we're doing a re-release of one of my favorite episodes about the vestibular system.

And we have so many new listeners around here, but even if you've heard this episode it's been a

0:13.5

while and it's a very dense one so I would highly recommend listening to

0:17.2

this episode again and I'm releasing this one specifically because we've been

0:22.0

talking a lot about the nervous system lately and there's

0:26.1

so many systems of our body that we can train and improve beyond just our cardiovascular system and our musculoskeletal system, right? We just kind of

0:34.5

our cardiovascular system and our musculoskeletal system, right? We just kind of think

0:34.7

about cardio and strength training and that's it. But there's so many other systems that

0:40.2

play a key role in how we feel, how function how we move the results that we see our

0:45.6

nervous system regulation all of those things so I wanted to re-release this episode

0:50.4

today we talk about the vestibular system and the visual

0:53.8

system so let's dive into this very interesting episode I hope you enjoy.

I am super excited about today's topic because it's a little nerdy and I think it's kind of a missing piece

1:05.9

when we think about mobility when we think about muscular function and ultimately

1:10.3

when we think about exercise in general. So when you think of mobility you

1:15.1

think of breathing and flowing and maybe like moving joints in circular

1:20.3

directions or maybe even holding a stretch.

1:24.1

Although moving your joints is a piece of mobility,

1:28.2

it really is only a fraction of the whole equation. If you truly want to maximize the mobility that your

1:36.3

joint and bone structure will allow and ultimately be able to control that

1:42.2

mobility and have the least amount of joint

1:44.0

damage and discomfort. It's not just about moving the joints, it's also about
