The one thing that they do tend to use against women is the threats of sexual assault.

I remember hearing a lot of, okay, so all these other racism stuff they want to get in your pants.

And of course all these years later, I could challenge that and say, actually it was the guys in the movement

that wanted to do that.

This being a show about the perils of the extremes, the dangers of cold thinking, and the ease with which, well-meaningly, we slip into

the warm embracing arms of ideologies and both sides of the political spectrum.

I thought it would be great to interview someone who'd been there, done that and

gotten the t-shirt. I welcome today on the show Lauren Manning, a former far-right extremist who became a peace advocate and wrote a memoir called Walking

Away from Hate. As she'll explain she went through a really difficult time in

her childhood which is when she fell in with a really bad

bad crowd on the far right. Today she documents her journey into the far right and

back out again. I implore her bravery and coming on to speak about what is undoubtedly a very difficult

subject for her.

She's very succinct in her responses, which is fantastic.

You might find me chiming in with all kinds of unfounded nonsensical opinions in this

particular episode try to just listen to her and ignore my bits. I do hope you

enjoy it anyway. Pick up walking away from hate in all the normal places. It's a

great read and I think it shows again how this whole punch a Nazi thing isn't always

a good idea. It can feel good of course, not on your fists, I don't know, I've never hit anyone.

A lot of neo-Nazis and far right adjacent are just like Lauren.

They were moved and manipulated at difficult times in their lives and they need a kind and

empathetic voice to talk them down and bring them back from the edge.
