As we record, the 2022 World Cup is a little over 11 weeks away.

0:20.9

And ahead of the Jamboree in Qatar, many of the 32 nations in action are revealing the kits they're going to be wearing this winter.

0:28.3

The designs have divided opinion which prompted us to discuss them,

0:31.4

and we're going to discuss some of the best and worst World Cup kit designs in the history of the gosh darn competition.

My name's Ryan Bailey, joining me to discuss the threads from the world's biggest stage are Graham Rutherland. Hello. Hello, Ryan Bailey. Joe Lowry, hello. Hello, Ryan. Graham, first off, I just need to check your feeling okay. I'm aware. Kits are your favorite things to talk about. I don't want to like overstimstimulate you out of the gate. I don't be too excited.

0:51.3

Is that? Yeah. I'm pretty high for this one. I can't lie. Funnily enough, I did not pick this subject, but I did not fight Taylor who suggested it. And funnily enough, he isn't on this. So I am taking his place to do. Oh, no, Taylor, don't pick that one. that would be so bad.

1:10.9

So Taylor basically lit the match and ran away, is what you're saying, right? Yeah, he threw the grenades. Joe, how do you feel about kits? You like a kit, don't you? Uh, sure. Yeah, I like a good kit. I'm not passionate about them, but maybe I'm going to develop a better passion. I certainly developed more of a respect for how they've evolved and a real appreciation for how things have changed over time while doing my research for this show. So I would say this has brought me closer to being a kit lover, but I don't know that I'm all the way there. You sure seem quite passionate about the US's World Cup kits. Well, because those ones are terrible. Yeah, just not a good passion, a bad passion. Yes, anger is the word that I would use to describe it. That's right. Yeah. Well, they move in the needle, Joe, which many of these kits were going to discuss today, certainly did as well. So why don't we start off the conversation by generally looking at World Cup kits?

2:01.7

Why are they a big deal?

2:03.5

I mean, Graham, if you think about over the years, you can picture certain kits and they're iconic

2:09.5

when you picture the kits of winning teams.

2:11.7

I know as an England fan, the World Cup 66 shirts are still for sale or repikers thereof.

2:18.7

And even the Euro-96 kits, you can still buy them in stores.

2:22.6

Certain kits hold quite a lot of cultural significance, don't they?

2:27.2

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to break any new ground with my answer here.

2:31.5

But you mentioned iconic moments there.

2:33.2

The World Cup naturally produces

2:34.7

those moments and the kits are what the teams wear for those moments. So in terms of

2:40.4

pictures and images of the sport that resonate through history, you then have whatever they're

2:46.3

wearing in those pictures and they kind of get seared into the memory bank. And the obvious answer here for why

2:52.6

they're such a big deal is that the World Cup only comes around every four years. So it's not like

2:56.7

the club game where you might get a new kit every single season. I know Brentford in the
