We voted to leave in a referendum and we haven't. Three years after the vote to leave the EU and two months after the

plan departure date Britain was never supposed to take part in these EU elections.

Unsurprisingly, the results were explosive.

The Brexit Party romped victory, winning 32% of the vote.

The Brexit Party won in every region of the UK, apart from London and Scotland, and Northern Ireland, where it didn't stand any candidates.

It returned 29 MEPs, making it the single biggest party in the European Parliament.

The Lib Dems came top in London and won 20% of the vote nationwide.

The two main parties meanwhile were slaughtered. The Conservative

Party came in fifth place with a measly 9% of the vote, a historic low for a

governing party, while Labour came in third place with just 14% of the vote.
