Summary
In this episode, Kelly sits down with thought leadership strategist Michael Roderick to unpack the frameworks behind why some ideas spread like wildfire while others barely leave the room.
Michael, who went from high school English teacher to Broadway producer in under two year, has spent years helping undiscovered experts and thought leaders package, position, and present their ideas in a way that gets people talking about them when they're not even in the room. And in this episode, he breaks down exactly how to do it.
From the AIM framework to the IPO model that separates the experts who get attention from the ones who actually get paid, this episode is a masterclass in the craft of thought leadership.
If you've ever felt like you're more convicted about your idea than the people you're trying to reach, this conversation will completely change how you think about your message.

| 0:00.0 | We spend so much time trying to convince people about our solutions and not nearly enough time talking to them about their problems and helping them understand their problems, really giving them the language for their problems. |
| 0:16.2 | Because when somebody is in pain, they want to know why they're in pain. |
| 0:20.0 | If we can help them know and understand it, |
| 0:23.2 | then they're naturally going to be like, okay, well, you understand my pain. So you must have, |
| 0:28.2 | at the very least, thought about a potential solution. And we're back. Welcome to the Kelly Roach show. I have with me today, my friend Michael Roderick, |
| 0:48.8 | and he is going to crack your brain open and get you thinking in an entirely new way today. We were actually having this conversation offline in a chat that we were just having. And I was like, I need to get you on the show. We have to have this conversation. I was like, everyone needs to be listening in on this conversation that we're having right now. So welcome to the show, Michael. I'm so excited to have you here. Thanks. Thanks so much for |
| 1:11.2 | having me. I'm excited to be here. Yeah. So you've kind of been like the guy behind the curtain a |
| 1:16.7 | little bit in a lot of different ways helping people to achieve really big things in the realm of |
| 1:22.8 | thought leadership and brand building and architecting like how to achieve these really high levels of success. |
| 1:29.0 | So I would love for you to just, like, walk everybody through kind of like a quick, |
| 1:34.4 | the making of Michael Roderick to give the background. |
| 1:38.1 | And then we're going to talk a little bit about some of the things you and I were discussing |
| 1:41.7 | offline that I wanted to pull into this conversation |
| 1:44.4 | today. Of course, yeah. So I basically, I started as a high school English teacher. And I went from |
| 1:50.4 | being a high school English teacher to becoming a Broadway producer in under two years. So a lot of people |
| 1:56.8 | naturally were very curious about that, including myself, in terms of how did this sort of, you know, move so quickly. And I was getting my master's in educational theater at NYU. And one of the things I had learned about was the power of simulations and how if people act out a scenario, even though they know they're acting, they'll do almost |
| 2:18.3 | exactly what they do in real life. So I started hosting workshops where I would simulate networking |
| 2:23.8 | experiences. I actually had people act out things like 101 meetings, job and abuse, cocktail parties. |
| 2:29.3 | And the more that I did this, the more I would develop these frameworks and these models around relationship building. |
| 2:36.4 | And when I would teach it, all of a sudden I'd get all these people saying, like, well, you've got to meet my. |
| 2:41.0 | And I would get all these like intros and all these things were happening. |
| 2:45.1 | So I sort of stopped for a second. |
