Welcome everyone to another regularly scheduled rerun. As we continue our run up to election time again and campaigns really kicking gear.

0:06.8

I thought for today's rerun we could reflect back on some advice for Democrats that people were giving about a year ago in the hopes of inspiring the party to strive for something more inspirational than just saying no to Donald Trump.

0:20.4

As for members, they got a new bonus episode in their feed today in which Amanda and I die deep into apologies.

0:27.2

We use some comments from Brian Stevenson and as recline that we heard on the show recently as a jumping off point, but we also look at some of the apologies and apology retractions that have been going around in the news lately.

0:40.0

In essence, we wanted to take a look at the sometimes transactional nature of apologies and then see what it takes to go from BS obligatory apologies to genuine ones that help build a better foundation for society.

1:50.2

There were many crises states of crises that predated Trump right so even if every single defensive battle was one and we know that that is not happening and that it can't happen there will be wins there will be losses but even if in some amazing world every defensive victory was one.

2:08.7

We would still be standing on the ground that where we were before we had Trump and that was the ground that produced Trump and that was not safe right and that was the ground in which social movements like Black Lives Matters were surging and the climate justice movement was surging because we're out of time on that front so we somehow need it to fight defense and offense at the same time.

2:32.7

We need to end up somewhere that is different and better than where we were before Trump.

2:39.2

It's basically like the movie that Devils advocate with counter-reves and Al Pacino where it ends and you're like yeah he won and then Al Pacino shows up with a devil again here I am let's start it all over again.

2:50.4

Am I going to watch that movie every time it's on TBS?

2:54.2

I was like a Google Google that movie right now.

2:56.6

I think I may have seen the movie.

2:59.6

I just the idea of the movie is that it's like this battle with the devil and at the end counter-reves is very like I won.

3:06.1

Whoa and then the devil shows up at the very end of the movie implying like we're going to do this all again.

3:10.4

So I'm saying that like if we to sort of support you saying if we defeat Trump at every turn we still have the South Side Chicago, the West Side Chicago, we still have the Bronx, we still have all these neighborhoods, you still we still have Appalachia, we still have poverty in the South.

3:24.6

There's all these things that like you said produced him so it would just be the next reality show TV game show host to be president.

3:31.0

Or worse right because I mean as bad as Trump is I do believe there's worse than Trump and and and this is why it's I think it's particularly worrying and one of the I think one of the threads that created Trump is is this idea that billionaires are going to save us right that we can outsource the world's problems to benevolent billionaires who
