Summary

Over the last two years we have shared a lot of tips, tricks and hacks related to time management… and they are all great! But, we need to have a specific plan for implementing them in our lives so we can be consistent. We are going to take some of our best tips and hacks and turn them into habits that you can build on a daily basis in order to improve your time management. In Atomic Habits, James Clear states that a habit needs to contain an action, time, and location so you have a clear understanding of the implementation intention. We are going to share 6 habits in the form of a fill-in-the-blank: “I will (action) at (time) in (location)”. We are giving you the action and you decide the time and location that fits your personality, schedule, and individual life In this episode we share the following 6 habits YOU need to build: I will create a power list at (time) in (location) I will complete the most difficult task from my power list at (time) in (location) I will turn my phone on do not disturb at (time) in (location) I will prepare my lessons for the next day at (time) in (location) I will work toward my goal of (goal) at (time) in (location) I will arrive at school at (time) and leave school at (time) SUBMIT YOUR TIME SUCKING HURDLE! Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your hosts, Michelle Emerson and Bridget Spackman,

0:05.5

and we are here to make your life easier by helping you master your time, organization,

and productivity as a teacher. What time is it? It's habit time. In today's episode,

we are going to share six habits related to time management that we believe every

0:22.7

teacher needs to build. I'm so excited for this episode. But first, we're going to listen to a

TSA from Melanie. Melanie says, planning with others. I find that often I am planning with my

0:35.1

assistant or my kindergarten team that we go down this long and winding

0:39.3

roads during planning time. I'm sure a lot of people out there do the same. Instead of staying on

0:45.3

task, I find myself letting others control the narrative of the meeting. Therefore, instead of getting

0:51.0

all of the areas I need to cover taking care of, I end up conceding to

0:55.5

others. I've spoken up earlier in the year in the nicest way. I just feel like I look like a bossy

pants if I take the rings. Before I respond to the TSAH, I'm just laughing because y'all know

Bridget and I batch episodes. We typically do four to five episodes at a time and we

1:13.2

outline them in advance so we copy and paste the tsh and just you know read it word for word but it cracks me up

1:19.6

when we're recording because i can always see the outline and bridget can always see the outline and

1:23.9

there's moments where it's like we're reading it, but you can tell like it's not

1:28.2

clicking in our brain. And like I had one of these moments in the last episode, but we just try to

1:33.6

find it along the way. And it made me think about in the office, the picnic company picnic episode,

1:40.7

when Michael Scott has like his notes about what he's going to say to Holly. And he's

1:45.5

reading and he's like, we're soup snakes. And then he's like, yeah, you know, from that one time

1:50.7

that we had. And then he's like, okay, that doesn't make sense. And then he rereads it. And he's like,

1:54.6

oh, soulmates. Soulmates. It just made me think of that. So honestly, Melanie, I gave up on actually, quote unquote, planning during collaborative
