| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Whether we're 16 or 60, we seem to have a pretty |
| 0:18.4 | set point for happiness. The level of happiness that we're going to experience in life is pretty much going to stay the same. |
| 0:25.0 | However, of course, this podcast is about changing it. |
| 0:29.0 | And what we're going to look at today is the difference between learning versus performance and how these two can affect our |
| 0:36.1 | state of happiness and improve it. |
| 0:39.5 | With a start, first, what do I mean by learning versus performance? |
| 0:44.0 | Well, the learning part of anything is the part where we're learning a new skill, |

| 1:15.1 | golf. Well the first thing we have to do is get lessons. We have to learn. We have to |
| 1:19.9 | learn how to play golf. And if we want to be good at it, we have to get a good instructor who's |
| 1:24.3 | going to really teach us and improve our skills. We're going to get out there, perform a certain |
| 1:28.4 | way, and he or she will instruct us on ways to get better. It will be a lot of learning, a lot of mistakes, and |
| 1:35.2 | will improve. The performance part of a golf is completely different. That's just where we're |
| 1:41.1 | getting out there in playing golf, and we can play golf for years and never improve because we're not learning any new skills. |
| 1:47.8 | We're not willing to take lessons because those we learn something |
